Yes — every tutoring session is completely free for students. We're a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and all of our funding goes toward developing better curriculum and resources, not toward charging students.
Any student who wants support with English — reading, writing, or conversation. After you fill out the interest form, we match you with a tutor based on your subject needs and availability.
Tutoring is open to high school students (freshman through senior). We've seen a number of college students and young adults apply recently — if that's you, we appreciate the interest, but this program is specifically for high schoolers.
We match students and tutors based on shared subject interests and overlapping availability. Once a match is confirmed, both people get an email with login details to their dashboard.
About 2 hours a week — roughly 1 hour preparing the lesson and 1 hour teaching it.
Just give your tutor or student at least 24 hours' notice, except in real emergencies. Frequent last-minute cancellations may affect your ability to continue in the program.
Tutors can choose to focus on Chinese-, Spanish-, Vietnamese-, or Korean-speaking students, or stay flexible and take whoever's the best fit.
A separate program from one-on-one tutoring — NC Tutoring members are paired with English Language Development (ELD) students to practice English through regular letter writing, rather than live sessions.
